Overview & First Impressions

Friendly staff will check you in and offer to escort you to the site. They have food, ice and firewood for sale at the office (please check fire restrictions as this part of CO is frequently impacted). There is a clubhouse with a kitchen, TV and pool table that would be great for families. They have a variety of sites available, including large pull through sites. You can spend extra for a site with a patio and grill.

Detailed Category Breakdown

๐ŸŒฒ Privacy & Spacing (Score: 2.5/5)

It depends on the site booked. I was in a pull through site and there was decent spacing between sites. Some sites are right next to each other. There are mature trees on the campground.

๐Ÿšฟ Cleanliness & Facilities (Score: 5/5)

Restrooms are unisex and private. They have a toilet, sink, and shower. They were very clean and had ample hot water. The laundry room is centrally located and card operated. The clubhouse is a great addition for people traveling with families.

๐ŸŒŒ Scenery & Vibe (Score: 4/5)

This part of Colorado is gorgeous, you are surrounded by mountains. I came in early October and there were some colors from the trees in the campground. It is right next to Hwy 24 though, which brought this score down. That said, its location is actually a bonus as itโ€™s just north of downtown Buena Vista. The highway has wide shoulders so it is bikeable to downtown.

๐Ÿš— Access & Roads (Score: 5/5)

Right off the highway, very easy to get to and close to things to do.

๐Ÿ’ต Value for Money (Score: 4/5)

I found it a bit expensive compared to some other campgrounds in the area, however the amenities and proximity to Buena Vista make up for this.

Verdict: Is It Worth It?

This is a great campground for families (there is a playground and clubhouse), for long term campers (they offer monthly rates), and if the most important part of your stay is proximity to Buena Vista. Iโ€™m currently full-timing in my van and booking places that are close to towns so I can bike or walk to them, which is why I chose this spot. It is right off of Hwy 24 so if highway noise is a concern for you, this may not be the campground for you. If you are doing more vanlife camping, I would only recommend this place for a laundry/shower day as there is plenty of National Forest and BLM land in the area to boondock on. I would stay here again if proximity to Buena Vista was my top priority.
